The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died Oct. 14 in Qazi Bandeh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Killed were:
Spc. Cory J. Bertrand, 18, of Center, Texas
Spc. Stephen R. Fortunato, 25, of Danvers, Mass.
Sgt. Preston R. Medley, 23, of Baker, Fla.
