Combined Force Captures Taliban Leader

KABUL, Afghanistan, March 27, 2012 – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in the Maidan Shar district of Afghanistan’s Wardak province today, military officials reported.

The leader organized attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces in the district, officials said. The security force also seized a shotgun.

In other Afghanistan operations today:
-- A combined force captured a Taliban facilitator and detained two suspects in the Zharay district of Kandahar province. The facilitator provided weapons and roadside bombs to insurgents for attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

-- A combined force captured a Haqqani network leader and detained two suspects in the Sabari district of Khost province. The leader distributed roadside bombs to insurgents and coordinated attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

-- In the Baraki Barak district of Logar province, a combined force captured a Taliban leader who directed roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

-- A combined force detained two suspects while searching for a Haqqani facilitator in the Sharana district of Paktika province. The facilitator provides weapons for insurgent attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

In an operation yesterday, an Afghan provincial response company advised by coalition forces found and destroyed numerous rocket-propelled grenade rounds and multiple recoilless rifle rounds in the Achin district of Nangarhar province.
