May 30, 2008 - Several enemy fighters were killed and 20 were detained during separate operations in Afghanistan yesterday,
military officials said. Four enemy fighters were detained during an Afghan and coalition operation to degrade militant anti-government operations in Konar province.

Coalition forces searched compounds in the province's Narang district, targeting a Taliban member known to have assisted in multiple attacks against the Afghan government and coalition forces, officials said.

In a separate operation, coalition forces detained 16 enemy fighters during an effort to disrupt anti-government operations in Afghanistan's Ghazni province.

Coalition forces searched compounds in the province's Andar district, targeting a militant
leader who facilitated foreign fighters and homemade-bomb attacks against the Afghan government and coalition forces, military officials said. During their search, coalition forces were threatened by several enemy fighters and responded with small-arms fire, killing several of the enemy fighters. The troops found weapons and bomb-making materials on the compound and destroyed them to prevent their future use.
