American Forces Press Service

Aug. 10, 2008 - Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of Multinational Force Iraq, and U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker issued a joint statement yesterday condemning the Aug. 8 terrorist suicide bombing in Tal Afar, Iraq.

The blast killed 25 citizens and injured more than 60. "The U.S. Embassy Baghdad and the Multinational Force Iraq strongly condemn the terrorist car bombing that occurred on Friday in the Moalameen market in Tal Afar," the statement reads. "The targets of these vicious and cowardly attacks were innocent Iraqi men, women and children. "We will work closely with the people and government of Iraq to confront those who carry out these barbaric acts," the statement continues. "We know that such senseless attacks will further unite the Iraqi people in their rejection of al Qaida and the indiscriminate violence they inflict upon the citizens of Iraq."
