American Forces Press Service

Sept. 11, 2008 - Coalition forces captured four suspected Iranian-backed "special groups" members in operations today in Muwaffaqiyah, about 125 miles southeast of Baghdad in Iraq's Wasit province. Based on intelligence information, coalition forces targeted an alleged special groups
leader in Wasit province. The suspect is believed to be tied to senior special groups leaders in that area who are responsible for weapons trafficking as well as attacks on Iraqi forces, officials said.

Coalition forces approached the suspect's location, where they detained four suspects without incident.

Detainees already in custody have said the organization receives funding, training, weapons and even direction from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force, officials said.
