Iraqi Forces Arrest Criminals, Discover Munitions

Feb. 22, 2009 - Iraqi security forces reported arresting a suspected criminal and discovering munitions during a patrol Feb. 19 in southern Baghdad's Rashid district. Iraqi army soldiers discovered a rocket-propelled grenade while conducting a clearance operation in the Saydiyah neighborhood. The soldiers transported the RPG to their headquarters for proper disposal.

In the Aamel community, members of the local "Sons of Iraq" civilian security group arrested a wanted criminal using a warrant. They transported the detainee, wanted for terrorist activities, to the local Iraqi police station for processing.

Iraqi soldiers discovered a roadside bomb while clearing an Iraqi checkpoint in the Jihad community. An Iraqi explosive ordnance disposal unit responded to dispose of the munitions.

After receiving a tip from an Iraqi civilian, Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers discovered a roadside bomb in the Karb De Gla community. A coalition forces EOD unit disposed of it.

Also Feb. 19, Iraqi National Police arrested two suspects wanted on warrants for larceny during patrols in southern Baghdad's Rashid district. Iraqi officers arrested the suspects in the Bayaa and Aamel neighborhoods. The officers transported the detainees to a nearby headquarters for processing.

In another operation, three stockyard workers were detained during an Iraqi army patrol in Dujaylah on Feb. 19. Iraqi soldiers also found 250 60 mm mortar rounds, 145 60 mm mortar fuses, two 60 mm mortar tubes, two rocket-propelled grenades, two armor piercing grenades, an anti-aircraft gun and 300 14.55 mm anti-aircraft rounds.
