American Forces Press Service

March 22, 2010 - Iraqi security forces arrested eight terrorism suspects over the weekend, military officials reported.

Iraqi soldiers and U.S. advisors arrested suspected al-Qaida in Iraq bombing-cell members yesterday during combined operations in central and northern Iraq.

In a rural area north of Baghdad, Iraqi soldiers and U.S. advisors searched a building for a suspect wanted on a warrant who is believed to make and distribute homemade explosives used in attacks by the terrorist group throughout Baghdad. The Iraqi-led security team used information gathered in the building to locate a nearby cache of artillery rounds.

After conducting preliminary questioning and examination of evidence at the scene, Iraqi soldiers identified and arrested the wanted man and two accomplices.

During a second operation yesterday in a rural area northwest of Mosul, Iraqi soldiers and U.S. advisors arrested a suspect believed to be behind several al-Qaida in Iraq vehicle-bomb attacks in Mosul, along with two accomplices.

Iraqi police working with U.S. advisors arrested two suspected terrorists during a March 20 operation in northern Iraq conducted to capture a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member operating in Diyala province.

After conducting preliminary questioning and collecting evidence collected during the operation, Iraqi police arrested two suspected associates of the wanted man.
