Troops killed several insurgents and detained several others, including a Taliban bomb maker, in Logar province’s Charkh district. The Taliban bomb maker is a member of a cell that frequently attacks local security forces, officials said.
Afghan and coalition forces killed an insurgent who displayed hostile intent and detained several others in Baghlan province’s Burkah district while searching for a Taliban district chief.
In other operations yesterday:
-- Security forces captured several suspected insurgents, including three Haqqani network terrorists, in Khost province. Forces detained two Haqqani terrorists and several other suspects linked to weapons trafficking in the province’s Sabari district, while a separate combined patrol captured the other Haqqani terrorist and a suspected insurgent in Terayazi district. The second Haqqani terrorist reportedly is a specialist in planning explosive device attacks.
-- Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban weapons trafficker and several other suspects in Kandahar province’s Kandahar City .
-- In Paktika province’s Orgun district, forces detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Haqqani network terrorist connected to several attacks on local security forces.
-- Afghan and coalition forces also found a weapons stockpile in Helmand province’s Musa Qalah district, which resulted in seizure of 100 large-caliber machine-gun rounds, 18 mortars, two assault rifles, an anti-tank mine and a vehicle-mounted, large-caliber machine gun.
