Also this week, Marine Corps Gen. John R. Allen, commander of the International Security Assistance Force, congratulated the Afghan national security forces on the successful outcome of a recent operation in the Warduj district of Badakhshan province.

The operation saw Afghan army and police forces lead, plan and execute a mission to free 11 Afghan policemen who’d been captured by insurgents. Twenty-five suspected insurgents were arrested.

"The professionalism, courage and teamwork demonstrated by the ANSF in prosecuting this mission is a reflection of the ever-growing leadership capability and operational agility of the Afghan security apparatus writ large," Allen said.
