Standing on the Afghan sand, Tony Blair exhorted recently: "Here in this extraordinary piece of desert is where the fate of world security in the early 21st century is going to be decided." Craving a monstrous enemy, Blair's brain has lost touch with reality. Even under the Raj it was inconceivable for Britain to conquer and hold that territory.
