In operations today, Afghan and coalition troops discovered numerous stockpiles of weapons and drugs. These operations resulted in seizure of more than 1,000 rounds of small-arms ammunition, 180 pounds of opium, 33 mortar rounds, 24 rocket-propelled grenades, 20 pounds of homemade explosives, six hand grenades, five assault rifles and assorted bomb-making materials.
In operations yesterday:
-- Afghan and coalition forces detained numerous suspected insurgents in Nimroz province’s Khash Rod district while searching for a Taliban leader responsible for trafficking explosive devices throughout the northern parts of the province.
-- Acting on tips from local residents, security forces in Paktia province’s Gardez district detained three suspected insurgents, including two alleged Taliban financiers. The suspects reportedly coordinate financial aid and logistics for Taliban operations throughout the province.
-- Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban leader in Zabul province’s Qalat district, thanks to tips from local residents. The leader is responsible for planting roadside bombs along roads security forces use frequently.
