SOUTHWEST ASIA, March 26, 2015 – Iraqi security forces defeated four separate attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant across Iraq March 24, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials said.

The successful counterattacks were in the areas of Kisik, western Kirkuk, Bayji and Habbaniyah, officials said. In Habbaniyah, ISIL unsuccessfully used two vehicle-borne bombs and 12 suicide bombers in an effort to retake the Habbaniyah bridge, based on initial reports. No ground was gained by ISIL in these attempts, officials said.

"The tables are turning," said Col. Wayne Marotto, task force spokesman. “[Iraqi forces are] gaining ground and their capabilities continue to improve.”

The task force supported Iraqi forces and peshmerga fighters' defense through airstrikes, ongoing advise and assist operations, and airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, officials said.

Meanwhile, in Syria, anti-ISIL forces seized several ISIL-controlled villages just south of Kobani, officials said

The coalition will continue supporting efforts on behalf of all Iraqi security forces and the government of Iraq to attack and defeat ISIL. Iraqi security forces continue to make gains throughout Iraq and are postured to retake additional territory from ISIL, officials said
