WASHINGTON, Oct. 8, 2006 – Three U.S. soldiers were killed over the past two days in Iraq, U.S. military officials reported.
A Multinational Division Baghdad soldier died yesterday when terrorists attacked his patrol with small-arms fire northwest of Baghdad, and a Task Force Lightning soldier assigned to 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, was killed by a makeshift bomb explosion yesterday.
Also, a Multinational Division North soldier assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, N.C., died Oct. 6, as a result of enemy action while conducting operations near Bayji.
The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Meanwhile, the Defense Department released the identities of two Marines who were killed recently supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Marine Lance Cpl. Edward M. Garvin, 19, of Malden, Mass.,
Marine Cpl. Benjamin S. Rosales, 20, of Houston, Texas, died Oct. 4 while conducting combat operations in Iraq's Anbar province.
They were assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
