Iraqi, U.S. Forces Capture 16 Suspects

Jan. 15, 2010 - Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors detained 16 terrorism suspects in recent days, military officials reported. Northeast of Baghdad yesterday, an Iraqi emergency response unit arrested a man during a combined operation targeting a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member believed to be involved in planning vehicle-borne bomb attacks in the Mosul and Beiji areas.

After conducting preliminary questioning and assessing the evidence at the scene, police arrested a suspected criminal associate of the wanted man.

Elsewhere, Iraqi forces, in a combined operation with U.S. soldiers, arrested 15 people Jan. 13 in connection with murders and kidnappings in Salahuddin province.

With Iraqi forces leading the operation, U.S. soldiers assisted in the capture of warranted terrorists allegedly associated with the Jaysh Rajal al-Tariqah al-Naqshbandia terrorist network.
