FBI Briefs Congressman Jerrold Nadler on JTTF Efforts to Safeguard New York

April 20, 2010 - Yesterday, FBI New York Division Special Agent in Charge (SAC) George C. Venizelos and SAC Gregory Fowler briefed U.S. Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) on the FBI’s New York Office and the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). SAC Fowler provided Congressman Nadler an overview of the origins and evolution of the JTTF in New York. In 1980, the FBI in New York established the first JTTF with 10 FBI agents and 10 detectives from the NYPD. Today, it is by far the largest task force with over 400 FBI agents, analysts, and task force members from more than 40 agencies.

Assistant Special Agents in Charge (ASAC) Donald Borelli and Richard Frankel, along with NYPD Deputy Inspector John Nicholson, spoke on recent cases affecting New York by highlighting the work of the JTTF and our many law enforcement and intelligence community partners. While there, Congressman Nadler was given a tour of the multi-agency JTTF and spoke with several of the agents, analysts, and task force members. Also in attendance were SAC James Trainor of the Intelligence Division and SAC David Cardona of the Criminal Division.

“We enjoyed hosting Congressman Nadler at the FBI. The FBI in New York works in conjunction with all of our federal, state and local partners to safeguard the citizens of New York and our important infrastructure. We appreciate the continued efforts of Congressman Nadler in working to protect New Yorkers,” said SAC George Venizelos.
