Combined Force Captures Haqqani Operative

KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 16, 2011 – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Haqqani network facilitator in the Pul-e Alam district of Afghanistan’s Logar province yesterday, military officials reported.

The facilitator participated in attacks, provided materials for building roadside bombs, and supplied weapons and ammunition to insurgent fighters in the district.

The security force also seized multiple weapons and military uniforms and detained several other suspected insurgents during the operation.

In other Afghanistan operations yesterday:
-- A combined force captured a Taliban facilitator and detained two other suspects in the Kandahar district of Kandahar province.

-- In the Khugyani district of Nangarhar province, a combined force detained multiple suspects while searching for a Taliban facilitator. The facilitator supplies Taliban fighters with roadside bomb components and explosives.

-- A combined force found and destroyed seven mortar rounds, a recoilless rifle, a assault rifle, several grenades, improvised explosive device-making materials, and 180 rounds of small-arms ammunition in the Dowlat Shah district of Laghman province.

-- In the Bagram district of Parwan province, a coalition force seized 58 mortars and some artillery rounds.

-- A combined force detained two suspects during a search for a Taliban leader in the Jaghatu district of Wardak province. The leader coordinates attacks against coalition forces.

-- In the Behsud district of Nangarhar province, a combined force detained multiple suspects while searching for an al-Qaida facilitator. The facilitator transports insurgent fighters and supplies between Nangarhar and Kunar provinces. A machine gun and hundreds of ammunition rounds were confiscated.

-- A combined force detained a suspect during a search for a Taliban leader in the Rashidan district of Ghazni province.

-- In the Nadir Shah Kot district of Khost province, a combined force detained several suspects during a search for a Haqqani network facilitator who distributes weapons and roadside bomb materials throughout the region.
