Combined Force Captures Taliban Leaders

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2011 – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured two Taliban leaders and detained several suspected insurgents in the Musa Qalah district of Afghanistan’s Helmand province yesterday, military officials reported.

The insurgent leaders had coordinated the movement of fighters in the district, attacked coalition forces and distributed roadside bombs.

In other Afghanistan operations yesterday:
-- A combined force found nine rocket-propelled grenades in the Andar district of Ghazni province.

-- A combined force captured a Haqqani network leader, confiscated weapons and detained a suspected insurgent in the Bak district of Khost province. The leader distributed weapons and planned attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

In Nov. 13 Afghanistan operations:
-- A combined patrol killed several insurgents and wounded another in the Marja district of Helmand province. The wounded insurgent was taken for medical treatment and questioning.

-- A combined patrol killed two insurgents and seized and destroyed 6,600 pounds of morphine, some drug processing equipment, two assault rifles and some ammunition in the Kajaki district of Helmand province.

-- In the Nurgal district of Kunar province, local civilian turned in 28 types of rockets and 29 rocket-propelled grenade propellant cases to coalition forces.
