From an International Security Assistance Force Joint Command News Release

KABUL, Afghanistan, July 11, 2012 – An Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban weapons smuggler in the Zharay district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province today, military officials reported.

The smuggler was responsible for the movement of insurgents and equipment throughout the province, officials said. He also was working to coordinate a poison-based attack and had acquired a large amount of explosives, they added.

The security force also detained several suspected insurgents during the operation.

In an operation yesterday, Afghan and coalition security forces searching for a Taliban leader in the Charkh district of Logar province called in an airstrike that killed two insurgents. No civilians were harmed, and no civilian property was damaged, officials said.
