Iraqis Arrest 20 With Suspected Terrorism Ties

Aug. 25, 2010 - Iraqi security forces arrested 20 people with suspected terrorism ties during several operations in Iraq yesterday, military officials reported.

In Kirkuk, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested three people believed to be criminal associates of a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member who allegedly is involved in financial and operational coordination for the terrorist organization.

In eastern Mosul, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member and a suspected criminal associate. The suspected al-Qaida in Iraq member allegedly is a courier for the terrorist organization and has ties to senior-level terrorist extortion leaders in northern Iraq.

In another operation in eastern Mosul, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested four people believed to be criminal associates of a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader who allegedly has ties to extortion and weapons-procurement terrorist cells.

Northeast of Fallujah, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested four people believed to be criminal associates of a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader who allegedly has ties to the organization's senior leaders.

In Abu Ghraib, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested seven people believed to be criminal associates of a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader who allegedly is involved in roadside-bomb production and has ties with the organization's senior leaders.
