Iraqis Arrest 9 Terrorism Suspects

April 7, 2010 - Iraqi forces, with U.S. advisors, arrested nine suspected terrorists in recent operations, military officials reported. Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested the suspected leader of the Mosul branch of al-Qaida in Iraq during a combined operation.

Operating with a court warrant, they apprehended the man believed to be the suspected terrorist leader, along with two suspected criminal associates, during a vehicle stop in western Mosul.

The same day, Iraqi forces with U.S. advisors arrested a man believed to be the top al-Qaida in Iraq leader for eastern Mosul, also during a vehicle stop, along with two suspected criminal associates.

Yesterday, Iraqi forces arrested three suspects during two combined operations in northeastern Baghdad and Mosul targeting al-Qaida in Iraq's leadership.

Iraqi forces and U.S. advisors searched several buildings for a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader believed to be involved in multiple terrorist activities, including bombing operations. A preliminary investigation led Iraqi forces to arrest a criminal associate of the wanted man.

During a second operation, Iraqi forces and U.S. advisors searched a building in western Mosul for an al-Qaida in Iraq leader and arrested two men suspected of being his criminal associates.
