KABUL, Afghanistan, July 11, 2012 – An
Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban weapons smuggler in the
Zharay district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province today, military officials
reported.
The smuggler was responsible for the
movement of insurgents and equipment throughout the province, officials said.
He also was working to coordinate a poison-based attack and had acquired a
large amount of explosives, they added.
The security force also detained several
suspected insurgents during the operation.
In an operation yesterday, Afghan and
coalition security forces searching for a Taliban leader in the Charkh district
of Logar province called in an airstrike that killed two insurgents. No
civilians were harmed, and no civilian property was damaged, officials said.
