WASHINGTON, July 31, 2012 – An Afghan and coalition security force called in
an airstrike that killed several insurgents during an operation to arrest a
Taliban leader in the Muqer district of Afghanistan’s Ghazni province today,
military officials reported.
After the airstrike, the security force detained several suspects, officials
said.
No civilians were injured during the operation, officials said.
Also today, Afghan and coalition officials confirmed that Haqqani leader
Abdullah was among the insurgents killed during a July 28 operation in the Jani
Khel district of Paktia province. Abdullah, also known as Tufan, was directly
involved in the planning and execution of the June 20 suicide attack in the
Khost provincial capital that killed more than a dozen Afghan civilians.
In July 30 operations:
-- A combined force found and cleared two improvised explosive devices in
Ghazni province’s Andar district.
-- A combined force detained an insurgent in Paktia province’s Zurmat
district.
-- A combined force found and cleared two IEDs in Wardak province’s
Sayyidabad district.
