WASHINGTON, June 15, 2012 – An Afghan
and coalition security force killed Haqqani commander Eid Mohammad and multiple
insurgents during an operation in the Sharan district of Afghanistan’s Paktika province
today, military officials reported.
Eid Mohammed coordinated and personally
conducted attacks against coalition and Afghan forces, officials said. He also
provided weapons to Haqqani fighters throughout the region.
As Afghan and coalition troops
approached Eid Mohammed’s location, officials said, the Haqqani commander and
armed insurgents maneuvered to attack them. The security force engaged and
killed Eid Mohammad and multiple insurgents. No civilians were hurt in the
exchange.
In other operations today:
-- A combined force killed multiple
insurgents and seized explosives during a search for a Taliban commander in the
Warduj district of Badakhshan province. The commander serves directly under the
Taliban shadow governor for Badakhshan and coordinates attacks throughout the
province.
-- A combined force captured a Taliban
commander, detained several suspects and seized one AK-47 rifle, a pistol and
multiple AK-47 magazines in the Charkh district of Logar province. The
commander was responsible for the purchase and distribution of weapons,
explosives and ammunition to Taliban insurgents throughout the region. He also
served as a Taliban information officer, responsible for acquiring reports on
insurgent attacks and providing this information to senior Taliban leaders.
-- An Afghan-led, coalition-supported
force detained two suspects and seized one rifle and some small-arms ammunition
during a search for a Haqqani leader in the Sabari district of Khost province.
The Haqqani leader commands an improvised explosive device cell which conducts
attacks throughout the region.
In June 14 operations:
-- A combined force killed four
insurgents during a firefight in the Darah Ye Pech district of Kunar province.
-- A combined force killed one insurgent
in the Sayyidabad district of Wardak province.
